I AM YOUR THRIFTY THURSDAY
Hello Smart Stewards,
Let’s get a bit practical today on this journey of stewardship. We would look at a few thrifty and simple things we could do ourselves sometimes, rather than getting them off the shelf. The Christmas celebrations are here; with a bit of free time on our hands, we could give these tips a trial.
By the way, I attended a DIY Seminar on how to make liquid soap a while ago and it has saved my family tons of cash that could have been washed away buying detergents (just as the detergent itself washes dirt away). Do you know that with about N2,000( less than $10), you could make about 40 litres of very good, tested liquid soap that won’t make your clothes run or harm your fingers. Trust me, you get good value for your money and it’s absolutely made and packaged by you!
I am willing to share the knowledge (for free). Inbox me if you are interested in getting the tips, the list and where to get them; either for your family or commercial use. Who knows, one of these days, we might have a practical teaching session for the Smart Stewards in Lagos on how to make liquid soap ( Okay , IF I GET at least 20 YAYS in the comment box, WE WILL ORGANISE ONE IN JANUARY grin emoticon ).
Now there are a few basic kitchen stuffs you should have….
- Oven: There are really small and affordable ones you can use to bake and grill( By the way, its healthier and cheaper grilling stuffs than frying them all the time). See the attached pictures.
-Measuring cups: They are available everywhere. Useful for measuring stuffs especially when you are trying out new recipes.
Below are links to 7 (Seven) simple things you can try out over the Christmas period. Trust me, I have handpicked stuffs whose ingredients are easily accessible to those in Nigeria( I know inaccessibility is usually a deterrent for trying out new things).
1. Ginger Ale: Make your ginger ale; all the ingredients are easily accessible
2. Chicken Nuggets for the Children
3. Homemade bread
4. Peach Jam
5. Home made Brown Cookies: This is really simple and straight forward.
7. Cheap and cheerful cakes/cupcakes
I have tried some of them; so please free to ask me questions especially about the ingredients/their substitutes;( if you are not sure of what it looks like or where you can get them).
Sometime before Christmas, we'll get to talk about Thrifty Meals!
What other simple things can we make during this Christmas holiday period? Please share with us!
PS: I will upload also an editable Menuplanner, Shopping List and Calendar for 2016 for our use.

On a daily basis, we feature words of financial wisdom from different Smart Stewards members and sometimes from Guest Contributors. You'd be glad reading them. Enjoy!
