Someone sent the below lines to me in the wee hours of this morning and it got me really excited.
“Good evening. Good news. LOL. I made it. Just paid in week 28's fund into my 29 week savings account. 29th week will be next week. It is good to have a financial goal oh! LOL. Not spent a kobo on my hair in months sef. LOL. I am happy with me. Moving the funds further out of reach to a more secure savings policy I have had with ……… since 2012. Money can be fun sha. Thanks for bringing money alive….”
One of the exercises during our June Money Challenge was to save an incremental sum of N500 or N1,000 weekly and 29 weeks later, this person has remained on course! We will do it again in the New Year God willing.
We can never overemphasize the importance of Savings. Let me share with you the excerpts of my new book “Rubies of Wisdom”. The first devotional is about the the unnamed widow whose husband had died and who had creditors threatening to take her two sons as slaves for repayment. Read about it below……
“Unfortunately, her husband, a committed man of God who was a son of the prophet Elisha, had died leaving a huge amount of debts behind for his wife, who was probably unemployed. Committed and God-loving but with no proper financial plan for his family, he had died with those debts unpaid. And here came the creditor threatening to take away his children as slaves. For whatever reason, he had failed to manage his finances well, so had his wife, and neither of them had anticipated his sudden death.
So this unnamed widow found herself and her children in a quandary; she had absolutely nothing to pay the creditor with. That is, until she came to the prophet Elisha who prophetically "rescued" her from the claws of the creditor. The lone jar of oil she had at home became the point of contact and an avenue into the newness of life. Thank God, she had something at least! Otherwise, the situation might have ended catastrophically for her family!
Every woman should have a backup plan for her family; as a support role to her husband if married. Whether you’re a career woman or a stay-at-home mum, so long as you are there managing the finances of the family in one capacity or the other, it’s financial wisdom to keep something aside for a rainy day. Miracles such as the one described above still happen, but wisdom dictates that nobody should consume all he/she earns.
“Precious treasure and oil are in a wise man’s dwelling, but a foolish man devours it”- Prov 21:20”
Do you see one of the reasons we need to take savings more seriously?

Family and Friends Friday!
Thank God the weekend is here and for many of us, it's a good time to relax, rest, have family moments, shop, unwind, party etc.
A few days ago, something crossed my mind and it caught me a bit unawares . Definitely, times and seasons change and things do happen in this very Dynamic Life that we live in.
So what was the thought?
What if Facebook as a company; as a social media platform for whatever reason ceases to exist one day? What impact does that have on the world, on business and on friendships in general? I hear someone mutter under her breath that it can't happen.
Give it to Mark who has established and introduced such a phenomenal platform to the world.
If mansions in heaven were to be allocated only by philanthropic acts and life-impacting inventions; his mansion would probably be one of the biggest. Religious organisations, SMEs, Mega firms, Women, Men, Teenagers and practically everybody; including children whose pictures and faces are all over the internet, have and still benefit from Facebook and other platforms in varying degrees.
Back to my question...What if Social media platforms cease to exist?
Needless to say they have fostered super strong relationships and yet, they have damaged more important relationships.
Sometimes, we need to sit back and introspect on our relationships, friendships and associations. One of the things we learnt at the Summit is to constantly check our Circle of Influence. Are our lives and associations reinforced and empowered only through "Social-media-ing"? How many of your friends have you spoken to outside of social media platforms in the last one month? Many thanks to Whatsapp for the Calls and Video Calls introduction. But what if Whatsapp ceases to exist also?
I am not a prophet of doom, just pointing our attention to little things we may lose sight of.
As we go into the weekend, I believe its a good time to think thoroughly and assess some of these things.
And lest I forget, This dropped into my heart recently;
Sometimes, SOME RELATIONSHIPS HIT A BEND; BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN THAT'S THE END of such. Some somersault into the ditch as a result of the sharp bend, some experience a bit of shock and instability for a while and some survive the bend and keep going stronger.
It's of the Dynamics of Life I haven't been able to fully unravel.
Have a "Bond-full" Weekend!
