| “40 countries before 40.” “3 kids before 30.” “A thriving multi-million currency business by 35.” “Millionaire by 27.” We’ve all seen the checklists. The bold goals. The beautifully curated timelines. And to be fair, goals are powerful. They give us direction. They spark motivation. But here’s what no one really tells you: Life doesn’t always read your vision board. Before I clocked 40, I interacted with the idea of visiting 40 countries before 40. Emphasis on interacted, I didn’t chase it like it owed me money. Now? Almost 5 years after, I’m honestly not sure I’ve reached or exceeded the 40. Because, I stopped counting. Not because I can’t, but because I’ve come to realize that life isn’t just about hitting deadlines. It’s about living in alignment. Not because I’ve hit the goal, but because something else hit me: Purpose. People. Perspective. In the past few years, my journey has shifted from counting passport stamps to counting impact: I’ve visited maybe over 120 cities, around the world; countless counties and provinces, and yes, some whole countries too. Yes, I’ve stood by the lakes in Zurich and strolled through the streets of Geneva. (Pro tip: Every US state is basically a country. Don’t argue.) But what I’ve truly gained can’t be stamped in a passport: ✅ The joy of building a business that actually changes lives. ✅ The grace of growing with every season, on and off the map. ✅ The wisdom to know that alignment > achievement Let’s be clear: Audacious goals? Still valid. Big dreams? Still encouraged. But if life takes a scenic route, or you’re not “on track” by 29.5, or 39.5 or 49.5, breathe. My dad handled his first set of millions for the first time at about 58. Your path is still unfolding. You’re doing better than you think. Let your mind see what you’ve gained, even when things don’t go as planned. And just maybe, what you gain in the detour will be more beautiful than what you were chasing in the first place. So no, I may not have hit 40 countries before 40, but I’ve gained so much more. This is your sign to start now. Build something that matters. Travel the world if you can. But most of all, align your goals with what truly fulfills you. And when the numbers stop adding up… count the impact, count the joy and count your blessings. |
